Who We Are

BRIEF HISTORY

Odomankoma culture and ecotourism Centre wholly own by the community and also registered under Ghana Tourism Board. In November 2007 the European Union get to know that Ghana has a lot offer in terms of cultural wealth and diversity. With the growth of the tourism industry, the cultural sector has the potential to play an increasing economic role.
Recognizing the importance of cultural heritage particularly in relation to traditional textile, and its potential role for local economic development, the European Commission accepted to support the Ghana Traditional Textile, project, Conservation & Tourism Development” with GH cedis 340,000 funded through a grant over a period of three years.
         The project follows an innovative approach in making the link between cultural heritage, preservation of cultural tradition and economic development in order to improve the life of the people of four traditional textile communities in three different regions (Volta, Ashanti and Northern Regions) and to stimulate tourism facilities in four selected towns (Adanwomase, Kpetoe, Ntonso and Daboya).
This is intended to more revenue, create jobs and therefore reduce the existing poverty of the residents in the area and its surroundings and improve their social and economic conditions.
          So, within the project activities, the Odomankoma culture and ecotourism Center in the Ashanti Region was officially launched on April 29, 2007 at Adanwomse with realization of the Odomankoma visitors centre, the joint efforts in the planning and preparation of the project have been proved successful and the community of Adanwomase has now the means and the opportunity to enhance the capacity of traditional weavers across Ghana.
The center provides a place where traditional weavers can show/expose their products and where tourists can come, appreciate and buy traditional textiles cloth
The centre is a simple building with a main room where textiles are displayed and a small office for the centre administrator.
          So, since 2007 the center has been there till date helping the community in terms of development, and then also building teacher’s bangalows, providing water for the community and many projects without the help of the Government of Ghana.
         So, the centre was established to develope the community and to create traditional kente cloth locally in the Ghanaian context and is responsible for production of kente cloth in Ghana in Ashanti Region. And the center is been located in Kwabre East District of Ashanti.
Since the center was established it have been responsible for making black and white kente cloth for the Ashanti king and also receiving tourists from different countries for tour.

— Our Mission

The mission statement of the Odomankoma culture and ecotourism Center is to provide the adequate quarters for the teachers in the community, clinic for health issues, adequate water supplies, large room for weaving, providing bins at the vantage points for cleaness to ensure in the community for healthy life and healthy living.
Also, the center is responsible for voluntary services to promote friendly, hassel-free tourism in Adanwomase and also Ghana and across the globe.
